St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Hosts Bowls & Boos Chili Cook-Off
Halloween Event Will Provide Safety, Sustenance & Information

For Immediate Release: St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is hosting its 1st Annual Bowls and Boos Chili Cook-Off on Thursday, October 31st, from 6:30 to 9:00. The competition will feature a three-person panel of local Celebrity Judges led by Mattie Ro of Real Talk 93.3 FM. Individuals, businesses and organizations will compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards. Prizes range from $100 Visa gift cards to $25 Dunkin’ certificates.
For $10.00 adults will receive an All-You-Can-Eat bowl of chili with cornbread and a beverage. A Single Serving of Chili for children or adults is $5.00 or Take-Out Chili can be purchased for $15.00 a Quart. The net proceeds from this fundraiser will be split between three community charities St. Paul’s supports, namely: Gadsden Community Cares, The Pregnancy Center of Gadsden County and SPEC.
Conveniently located at the corner of King and Adams Streets, this event will be a great way for families to provide a hearty meal on a night that is so hectic for trick-or-treaters and at the same time will be fun for singles and senior citizens. One of the chili teams will be from the University of Florida IFAS. Supporting their team will be students, faculty and staff with expertise in produce and beef, on hand to answer questions and share information about the nutrition and gardening programs they offer. IFAS Executive Director Dean Pringle says, “this is the kind of community event we are proud to be involved in”.
St. Paul’s Rector, the Reverend Canon Tanya Scheff, noted that family-friendly costumes are optional but encouraged. “The mainstream of humanity passes by our doors, and we look forward to bringing our diverse community together for a time of fellowship in a safe and fun-loving environment. Join Tallahassee Downtown and Tallahassee Film Festival for Movies in the Park. On October 16th we will be showing Hocus Pocus in Kleman Plaza for free. Come early around 7 PM to get set up, order food, and get ready for the movie to start once the sun sets around 7:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to dress up in costume and bring blankets and chairs to set up on the grass. Attendees will be able to mobile order food onsite from participating downtown restaurants. This event wouldn't be possible without the support of the City of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Film Festival!

Killearn Methodist Church will host the 38th Annual Living Christmas, with the campus turned into the town of Bethlehem to share the scenes from the birth of Jesus with live re-enactment including a lively marketplace, animals. angels and actors portraying the Christmas story. The gates will open for cars to travel, or families may join the hayrides running each night December 13-15th.

The second concert of the season presented by your Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra featuring conductor candidate Daniel Black and guest artist Natasha Paremsk!

Maestro Daniel Black’s program promises barn-burning energy! Bookending the concert are Jessie Montgomery’s Coincident Dances and Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony. Montgomery’s work is inspired by the mosaic of dance music found in New York’s various subcultures, from samba to techno, English consort to mbira; Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony–famously referred to as the “apotheosis of the dance” by Richard Wagner–is infused with driving, dance-like rhythms throughout, especially in the outer movements. The symphony culminates in one of the most explosive finales of the entire repertoire. Between these two works, Rachmaninoff’s brooding and virtuosic Third Piano Concerto packs some serious dynamite, especially as performed by rising star pianist Natasha Paremski.

The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Full Moon Lighthouse Event on Friday, November 15, from 6:00-8:00 pm ET in Carrabelle, FL. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the sunset and rising Beaver Moon.

Visitors can enjoy an after-hours tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit of the lighthouse’s original, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris, France. Guests can browse the unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop. Visitors may also enjoy the glowing bonfire in the park (weather permitting). Bring a chair and enjoy the evening.

For those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast, evening tower climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. Evening climbs cost $10 and climb reservations are strongly encouraged due to limited availability. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall and children under 12 (FREE) with ticketed adults. Venvi Art Gallery is pleased to present "Locales: North Florida's Plein Air Landscapes" featuring oil paintings by local artist Nan Liu. This exhibition will showcase over 30 of his original paintings. Locales: North Florida's Plein Air Landscapes will be on display from November 1st to January 18th, 2025. Its opening reception will be held on November 1st from 5-8pm.

"Locales: North Florida's Plein Air Landscapes" will feature 30 oil paintings by Nan Liu that reflect his experiences in Tallahassee, Florida. "Locales: North Florida's Plein Air Landscapes" seeks to express the joyous sensations Liu feels from the natural world, especially in the many undisturbed and undestroyed locales. Liu enjoys the rich natural beauty of the lakes, gardens and national parks. The beauty found in the lakes, gardens and national parks Liu paints show the value and diverse beauty that is around us. This beauty is expressed through the landscape paintings in a way that inspires the viewer to feel reawakened and cherish the natural, undisturbed landscape.

Nan Liu works primarily in oil paint. Liu's passion for art began at a young age, with him studying Chinese Brush painting and calligraphy in Tianjin, China, with his primary influence being contemporary painter Fan Zeng. The overall theme within his works is nature and its presence. Liu's work showcases the cross-cultural perspective of contemporary America. In the landscape paintings featured in "Locales: North Florida's Plein Air Landscapes", Liu intends to showcase the natural beauty of the landscapes surrounding him in such a way that one will cherish the undisturbed landscape.

Nan Liu received his master's in Art Education from the University of Arkansas in 2001, and his MFA in painting at Florida State University in 2006 where he also received his PhD in Education in 2009. Currently, Liu is a professor of Visual Arts, Humanities and Theatre at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). His work is also part of public and private collections. Examples include the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Florida State University, and also Florida A&M University (FAMU). For the past two decades, Liu has also displayed his work in numerous group and solo exhibitions.
