ABOUT THE PRESENTERS: Matt Koss founded Primal Pet Foods in 2001 with a mission to help improve the overall health and happiness of our pets through species appropriate nutrition. Although he started his career as a trained chef in San Francisco, Matt found a way to bring his culinary expertise to the pet industry. When his dog, Luna, started experiencing health issues, he took the advice of a holistic veterinarian and started preparing food in his own kitchen for Luna. Matt quickly saw the improvements in her health and was determined to share his solution with other pet parents. Over the last 20 years, Primal has become a leader in the raw and freeze-dried pet food category, and Matt has continued to innovate and introduce new products to help make raw nutrition more accessible and convenient for pets and their parents.

James Templeman, PhD, serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Guelph and the Director of Nutrition and Formulation with Primal Pet Foods. He has conducted extensive research in animal nutrition and metabolism and recently assessed the practical application of protein quality models in the pet food industry. James has spoken at a variety of academic and industry conferences including annual meetings of the American Society of Animal Science, Pet Food Association of Canada, and International Symposium of Energy and Protein. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others and helping people better understand the role of nutrition in their pet’s life.

Howdy from the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System! We are thrilled to welcome local artist Tom Mitas as he exhibits his collection of Western themed paintings featuring cowboys, cattle, and horses.

Artist biography: Tom Mitas moved to Tallahassee in 2005 after accepting a contract with the Florida Department of Health to develop computer software. He bought a home and fell in love with the community: the closeness and wide open spaces, the greenery, animals, seashore, and friends he made. Tom drew often as a teenager and young adult, even while in the US Marines, but as an adult, his children, family, and work took priority. He did some wood carving and began to paint a few years ago after his wife gifted him an easel. He took classes in Havana and at the Tallahassee Senior Center, becoming enamored with oil and acrylic painting. Several of his pieces won awards at the Tallahassee Senior Center and North Florida Fair.

This ace-high exhibit will be on display at the Eastside Branch Library from October 16th through November 30th, 2024.

The LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System warmly welcomes back returning artist Tom Mitas. In this exhibit, he showcases his collection of North American wildlife paintings, some of which won First Place awards at the Tallahassee Senior Center!
