Tallahassee’s StarMetro bus service is going electric. City of Tallahassee officials say the system will add five electric-powered buses to its fleet this fall and now has a downtown recharging station to keep them on the road.
StarMetro Director Ivan Maldonado says the super-fast recharger was just installed at the C-K Steele Bus Plaza.
“With this completed, StarMetro will now launch into the test phase bringing us the final step before we bring customers on board this fall.”
Michael Hennessy is with Proterra, the company that installed the charging device.
“The fast charger will recharge the largest fleet of heavy-duty electric buses in America and set a new standard for customer and community service.”
Ten minutes after connecting with the charger, the bus will have enough power to go another sixty miles.
