North Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz Blasts GA Gov. Brian Kemp Over His Senate Pick

North Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz has inserted himself into Georgia Governor Brian Kemp’s decision on who to name to a vacant U.S. Senate Seat. Gaetz is upset Kemp isn’t going with President Donald Trump’s preferred choice.

Gaetz recently blasted Governor Kemp for his decision to nominate Kelly Loeffler to the U.S. Senate. On twitter, Gaetz described the impending announcement as “Governor Kemp announces the funeral time & location for his political career.”

Loeffler and her husband contributed money to Mitt Romney who has been critical of President Trump. Loeffler also co-owns the WNBA team, the Atlanta Dream, and Gaetz posted a photo of her, alongside former Georgia democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams.

In a rebuttle to the criticism on twitter, the Governor says he could “care less about what the political establishment thinks” of his choice. Leoffler is a lifelong Republican, but she’s never held a public office and serving in the U.S. Senate would be her first outing.

Gaetz meanwhile, is a staunch supporter of President Trump and often defends the President on television and on social media. He and other allies of the President argue Kemp should have selected Georgia Republican Congressman Doug Collins for the seat.
