New Charter School Set To Open In August

River Road Travels via Flikr

The Leon County School district has approved plans for a new charter school. The campus will be located at the former Tallahassee Mall.

The School of Arts and Sciences at the Centre is set to open this August. Leon Kung is chair of the board of directors of the School of Arts and Sciences Foundation. He says the new building is needed to accommodate more students. The School of Arts and Sciences on Thomasville Road has a waiting list of over 1,000 students.

There are 148 students enrolled at the new charter school. They range from kindergarten to second grade. The school will add up to eighth grade as the students progress.

The charter school will cover 8,600 square feet of the existing Dillards building on the ground floor of the mall.
