Lawson Blasts Trump's Alt-Right Defense

North Florida Congressman Al Lawson is blasting President Donald Trump’s angry outburst in defense of alt-right protesters.

The African American Democrat said Trump’s endorsement of the same arguments made by white nationalists at a deadly rally in Virginia is political pandering at its worst.

“The president should not indulge any of the hate groups. I don’t care if those are the ones that put him into office or not. He is the president of everybody in America, not one particular group.”

Lawson said Trump is adding insult to injury by failing to call the parents of peace activist Heather Heyer, who was murdered at the rally by a Nazi sympathizer. Lawson was wearing a purple necktie to honor Heyer as he toured a community health center in Tallahassee.
