Florida lawmakers are touting the success of the recently completed legislative session. House Speaker Jose Oliva says one thing that made a difference this year is that lawmakers were able to work closely with Governor Ron DeSantis.

Oliva compares that to previous years working with former Governor Rick Scott.

“Having the patients to wait until something came to the floor and passed and then went to the Senate and back. Its often a frustrating process for people to witness and people who are generally executives have a hard time with that process, but I think because he was a legislator it all came very naturally to him,” Oliva says.

Despite that the Florida legislature passed fewer bills this year than it has in years past—sending just 197 to the governor. The News Service of Florida reports that’s the lowest number of bills passed since 2010.
