A bill would allow prescription drugs from Canada to be purchased by the Agency for Health Care Administration and imported for use. The hope is that importing the inexpensive drugs will cut down cost for patients.

An ad running on Twitter and other social media platforms warns against the move.

"Some politicians in Tallahassee want a low that could flood Florida with dangerous uninspected drugs. We all want to pay less but we can’t risk dangerous counterfeit drugs. Call stop Senate Bill 1528 we just can’t take the risk."

Jacksonville Republican and Bill Sponsor Senator Aaron Bean say’s it’s just a ploy by the opposition.

“I was thinking if I wanted to oppose this bill what would I do. I would spread fear. I would say oh my gosh it’s so scary. we’re going to kill people, We’re going to do bad things and that’s what we’ve seen today. We’ve seen a little bit of fear. But members I assure you under this program we’re going to take baby steps. We’re going to have to present ourselves to the federal government to say how we’re going to do it in a way that we’re already importing drugs already,” said Bean.

The bill passed the Senate Appropriations committee Thursday. The House version has already been approved by the full House.
