Florida’s former Republican Governor Charlie Crist is getting a high profile speaking role at the Democratic National Convention Thursday, beating out those with deep roots in the Party. National Party officials say the decision to give Crist a speaking slot proves that they are the party of inclusion. Party Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz says she thinks Crist will get a warm reception during his speech.
“I think that Governor Crist is going to be a good example of what president Obama always talks about, the fact that even though we don’t always agree on every issue, we should reach across the aisle and work together.”
When Charlie Crist announced that he was endorsing President Barack Obama, there was immediate speculation that he’s planning to become Governor again, but this time as a Democrat. But the decision to give Crist a coveted speaking slot is ruffling feathers among some long term democrats who’ve been campaigning and those who are considering a run to lead Florida.
