This month-old kitten, one of the many now in the care of the group It's Meow or Never for Ferals, will soon be ready for a forever home.

Despite the pandemic, business has been brisk at the Capital Circle store.

While so many for-profit stores struggled during the pandemic, Tom Flanigan reports a local thrift shop that raises money for area nonprofits has been doing surprisingly well.

It's been a year since the Community Thrift Store moved into its present home on Capital Circle. On Saturday, store founder Karen Loewen was hosting an event for a local animal rescue group.

"Well we invited IMON - It's Meow or Never for Ferals, to come out and have their kitten shower this year. They are adopting cats left and right outside."

But the real success, says Loewen, is how much money her shop has raised for area non-profits.

"By August, we will have issued $100,000 in grants to the community. Now I'm looking at a million. And we're going to do it fast!"

Meanwhile, Loewen says the Community Thrift Store will have some special happenings in honor of its upcoming anniversary.
