Examining the surge in horror film attendance

Ways To Subscribe

“Weapons” is a new horror film directed by Zach Cregger (also known for the film “Barbarians”), and recently beat out several other films to take 1st place at the box office for the second week in a row. This also marks the third “breakout” horror film of the year (along with “Sinners” & “Final Destination: Bloodlines”). “Sinners” is currently the number one horror film for the year, in terms of total gross at the domestic box office, with around $279m (which is over $100m more than last years number one horror film, “Quiet Place Day One”). So, what is driving the increased attendance of horror films? We talk with Kevin Cole and Mady Giovanneli of Cap City Video Lounge to discuss horror trends, classic films, and intellectual property fatigue.
