The Florida Department of Children and Families is releasing an online guide that gives tips to parents on how to keep children safe and healthy. As Sascha Cordner reports, it’s the first time the book, which was previously available in hardcopy, will be available for free online.
The electronic book “Family Development-A Caregiver’s Guide” provides tips, like how to sooth a crying baby and potty training techniques. Department of Children and Families Spokesman Joe Follick says it also provides tips about teenagers:
“Talks about some of the chemical reasons you can expect this, not just puberty, but the way your brain develops, some coping mechanisms, some things you can do help, because maybe there’s some things you once knew, but you forgot, you can read this and say ‘ah, yes, I remember what it was like to be a teenager, and I remember having these feelings,’ and it can help prepare yourself to communicate with your teenager.”
A free copy of the online guide can be downloaded from the department’s web site. It is compatible with the Kindle and the iPad, and can be downloaded in English, Spanish, and Creole.
