Valdosta Public Works is using its Mosquito Control Outreach program to remind citizens they can help fight mosquitos too.
As part of its Georgia Cities Week, the Valdosta Mosquito Control Outreach program is reminding everyone to eliminate mosquitos at the source. Anthony Muskgrove, Operations Superintendent for Valdosta Public Works, says that removing standing water where mosquitos lay eggs is key. For people with bigger sources of stagnant water, city officials will be handing out Altosid tablets on Thursday on the first floor of City Hall from 10am-2pm.
“It’s a water soluble packet and they’re free to the public. Each one of those covers like 135ft squared of surface water. Trying to eradicate all possibility of any mosquitoes hatching before they do become a problem," said Muskgrove.
Muskgrove adds another way to stay safe in the summer is to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes to help prevent mosquito bites.
