Riversink Elementary teacher Megan Crombie is a finalist for the 2012 Teacher of the Year award

A Wakulla County grade school teacher is one of five statewide finalists for Florida “Teacher of the Year” honors.  Tom Flanigan reports the surprise honor was announced Friday morning at a Tallahassee department store.

It was probably the exploding confetti cannons that told Megan Crombie this was no routine visit to Macy’s in Governor’s Square Friday morning.  Her Riversink Elementary School students cheered and the school band struck up a lively tune as Florida Department of Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson and local Macy’s Manager Roxanne Parker made the finalist announcement.  They handed Crombie a $5,000 check and $500 Macy’s gift card.  Her school receives a thousand dollars.

Crombie becomes one of five teachers in the running for the 2013 Macy’s/Florida Department of Education Teacher of the Year Award.  The winner of that will be revealed July 12th at Universal Studios Orlando.
