U.S. Senator Marco Rubio’s speech at the Republican National Convention was met with cheers and applause, right before Mitt Romney accepted the Republican presidential nomination. But, during Rubio’s speech, he made a slip-up when he called for bigger government at the expense of liberty.
Marco Rubio, a Tea Party favorite and a rising star in the GOP, had his moment in the spotlight Thursday night, just before he introduced Mitt Romney as the party’s presidential nominee. Toward the end of his 17-minute speech, Rubio stumbled while leading up to why American voters should choose Romney as their presidential pick.
“We lived in an uncertain time, but we did not allow fear to cause us to abandon what made us special," said Rubio. "We chose more government instead of more freedom.”
A Rubio spokesman confirmed Friday that the Senator had mixed up that last part, and had meant to advocate for freedom over government.
