Republican incumbent Marco Rubio holds a seven point lead over the Democratic challenger in Florida’s closely watched U.S. Senate race, according to the latest Mason-Dixon poll.
The poll shows Rubio leading Congressman Patrick Murphy 47 percent to 40 percent among likely voters. The same poll had Rubio up by just three points in late August.
Pollsters say Rubio, who hails from a Cuban immigrant family, owes much of his lead to stronger support among Hispanic voters.
The race is drawing national attention as Democrats try to wrestle control of the U.S. Senate from Republicans.
