Ramon Alexander has won the Democratic primary race for House District 8. He will face write-in candidate Frantz Millien in the November general election.
Ramon Alexander outstripped his opponents, taking 44% of the vote in Leon County. Fellow Democrats Dianne Williams-Cox took 27%, Brad Johnson 20%, and Clarence Jackson 7%. Local radio host Joe Bullard announced the latest voter numbers at the candidate’s watch party.
“8,332 are all saying Ramon Alexander. So the theme song is, How You Like Me Now?” Bullard said, as teh crowd cheered.
Alexander says he hopes to build a better future for young people in District 8, which includes Gadsden County and a portion of Southwest Leon County.
“There are places in our district that look like a third world country. People are hurting, they’re crying out for help, and they’re sick and tired of being bamboozled by elected officials, being sold dreams. So we’re going to set the bar high. We’re going to set the standards high,” Alexander said.
While Alexander won the race handily, most of the district's constituents did not vote for him. Of the 99,000 registered voters in House District 8, only 23% cast a ballot for a state representative.
