FAMU Students Help NASA Send Humans To Space With $5M Grant

nasa.gov

Florida Agriculture and Mechanical university students are helping NASA send humans to deep space.

FAMU is partnering with Lockheed Martin, the private company helping NASA develop the Orion space capsule.

Orion is slated to take humans past low-earth orbit, to destinations like an orbit around the moon and ultimately, Mars.

During the five year collaboration, Lockheed Martin will provide up to $5 million in funding to help develop systems used on the spacecraft.

FAMU, a public university in Tallahassee, is the first historically black college to participate in a partnership working on space exploration.

A second test flight of the Orion capsule launches in 2018.
