Florida State University is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Education's Office for Civil Rights.
The investigation, originally reported by USA Today, focuses on FSU's handling of rape cases, specifically the charge against FSU Quarterback Jameis Winston.
A former FSU student alleged she was raped by Winson Dec. 7, 2012 but the case languished for nearly a year before it resurfaced and was further investigated by the Tallahassee Police Department.
FSU officials met with Winston in late January to discuss the allegations, but that, coupled with the long delay in the case, may have violated Title IX law.
State prosecutors announced in December Winston would not face criminal charges.
Title IX is the section of federal law that prohibiting sex discrimination in schools that receive federal funding — including athletics programs.
