Governor Rick Scott is calling for an investigation into the Florida State College in Jacksonville after learning the college owes almost $5 million to the federal government. The governor says that the leadership of the college needs serious review. The college owes the US Department of Education $4.7 million after nearly two years of incorrectly approving federal loans and Pell Grants. A recent report cites a lax culture within the college’s financial aid department as a major cause of the mistakes. Officials are reviewing school President Steve Wallace’s expenditures as well. The college’s Board of Trustees is expected to meet Tuesday to review recommendations for re-organizing the college. Trustees will also take up staff suspensions without pay.
