FAMU Board meets Monday to discuss Ammons resignation

Florida A&M University’s Board of Trustees will meet Monday to discuss how to move forward in the wake of the resignation of the school’s president. James Ammons abruptly resigned Wednesday, about a month after the board issued a no-confidence vote in his job performance. FAMU is still dealing with the fallout from a hazing scandal in its band program. It’s also under fire for incomplete audits and low graduation rates.

FAMU’s number two, Provost Larry Robinson says it’s too early to speculate about who will fill in as interim president, “but I will say that I have enjoyed my tenure at the university and I am willing to help in any way possible.”

FAMU’s board has been critical of Ammons’ administrative team, and the school could see more turnover the next few months. Ammons’ last day as President is October 11. The board will need to convene a search committee and name an interim president until the post is permanently filled.
