Learn how historic buildings are adapted to serve new purposes. We will explore the history of the Union Bank building, and the many different businesses that have existed in the bank building over the years. Children will pitch their own idea for a business in the Union Bank building and illustrate their design for the historic space.

The Crooked River Lighthouse will be hosting a Moonlit Evening at the Lighthouse event on Sunday, May 11, 2025 from 7:00-10:00 pm ET in Carrabelle, FL. Visitors can enjoy the gorgeous natural surroundings of St. George Sound and Carrabelle Beach under the glow of the sunset and rising Flower Moon. Admission is $10 and climbs are $5. Mothers get free admission and free climbs at this event in celebration of Mother’s Day.
For this special Mother’s Day evening, guests will be enchanted by mesmerizing “Dance of the Butterflies” performances. The event will feature Butterfly and Moth dancers, including Tallahassee State College (TSC) dancers and the Monarch Butterfly Homeschoolers plus visits from the lighthouse’s very own ethereal Moth Lady. These performers will be surrounded by the soft glow of night-blooming moon flower lights, creating a magical and unforgettable experience.
Visitors can experience an after-hours tour of the Keeper’s House Museum and see the exhibit of the lighthouse’s original, historic Fresnel lens constructed in 1894 in Paris, France. Guests can browse the unique nautical gifts and souvenirs in the gift shop. Visitors may also enjoy the glowing bonfire in the park. Bring a chair and enjoy the evening.
For those brave souls who are bold enough to venture to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast, evening tower climbs are scheduled at 15-minute intervals throughout the event. Climbers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the bay. Climb reservations are strongly encouraged due to limited availability. Climbers must be at least 44 inches tall and children under 12 (FREE) with ticketed adults. Join Tallahassee Downtown and Tallahassee Film Festival for Movies in the Park!On Wednesday, May 14th we will be showing Toy Story in Kleman Plaza for free. Come early around 8:00 PM to get set up, order food, and get ready for the movie to start around 8:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to set up on the grass. Attendees will be able to mobile order food onsite from participating downtown restaurants including JoEllen’s and Hayward House. The Challenger Learning Center will also be selling popcorn and concessions. This event wouldn't be possible without the support of the City of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Film Festival!

May 21, 2025 Theme -- Historic Preservation
Join us at Mission San Luis for Homeschool Days every other month on Third Wednesdays (except July). Programs are geared to children in kindergarten through 12th grade. Interpretive staff inperiod dress assist with the lessons. Themed lessons include hands-on activities about the life of our 17th century Apalachee and Spanish residents.
