Fall Programs: Pirate Tales, Story Time, Crafts, Spiders and Bats, STEM
The Friends of the Franklin County Public Libraries (FFCPL) is thrilled to announce a week packed with spooky fun and fall adventures at the Eastpoint and Carrabelle Branch Libraries. These events are part of the Fall Program Series, offering something for everyone – young children, students, and lifelong learners. These fun and educational events are free and open to the public – no library card is required!
+ Pirates of Florida with Robert Jacob – Monday, October 7, at 2:00 pm ET – Award-winning author and historian Robert Jacob will present “Pirates of the Florida West Coast” at the Eastpoint Branch.
+ Story Time Adventures – Tuesday, October 8, at 3:30 pm ET at the Eastpoint branch – Children will enjoy a reading of The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason, followed by a DIY Ghost Hand Puppet craft. Children ages 2-6.
+ Spiders and Bats with Jerry Walls – Wednesday, October 9, at 1:30 pm ET at the Eastpoint Branch. Animal educator Jerry Walls, from Amazing Animals, will provide fascinating insights into the lives of these often misunderstood creatures. For all ages.
+ STEM Event: Pom Pom Shooters – Thursday, October 10, at 3:30 pm ET, both Carrabelle and Eastpoint branches. Hands on STEM activity creating Pom Pom Shooters. Children aged 8-12.

Pirates of Florida with Robert Jacob Start the week with award-winning author and historian Robert Jacob, who will present “Pirates of the Florida West Coast” at the Eastpoint Branch on Monday, October 7, at 2:00 pm ET. Known for his expertise in pirate history, Robert Jacob will share tales from his books A Pirate’s Life in the Golden Age of Piracy, Pirates of the Florida Coast, and Blackbeard: The Truth Revealed. Attendees will be immersed in Florida’s pirate history, exploring the truths and myths of legendary pirates such as José Gaspar and others who roamed the West Coast. Signed copies of his books will be available for purchase.
Story Time Adventures Kids can enjoy special Story Time events at both the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches on Tuesday, October 8, at 3:30 pm ET. At the Eastpoint Branch, children will enjoy a reading of The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt by Riel Nason, followed by a DIY Ghost Hand Puppet craft. Meanwhile, at the Carrabelle Branch, young readers can listen to Ghost Afraid of the Dark by Sara Conway and create glow-in-the-dark ghost lanterns. These events are designed for children ages 2-6 and will foster a love of reading through fun, interactive storytelling and crafts.
Spiders and Bats with Jerry Walls On Wednesday, October 9, animal educator Jerry Walls will present “Spiders and Bats” at both the Eastpoint and Carrabelle branches. The Eastpoint program begins at 1:30 pm ET, with the Carrabelle session starting at 3:30 pm ET. Jerry Walls, a naturalist and seasoned presenter from Amazing Animals, will provide fascinating insights into the lives of these often misunderstood creatures, explaining their vital roles in the environment. This program is ideal for nature enthusiasts of all ages.
STEM Space Event: Pom Pom Shooters On Thursday, October 10, at 3:30 pm ET, both branches will host a STEM Space event where children aged 8-12 can engage in hands-on science by creating Pom Pom Shooters. This interactive program fosters curiosity and critical thinking, offering an exciting opportunity for young minds to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and math in a fun, educational setting.
