Local Credit Union hosts Mini Billionaire Academy

Tallahassee's Federal Credit Union probably doesn't draw thoughts of summer camp. But for this week, the company is hosting a five-day financial literacy program for middle schoolers. Issues like college debt and car insurance are the biggest issues the camp is tackling, but those topics aren't being taught like an old college lecture.

"Yesterday we did red light green light investment style. So we learned about investments playing games. Today this morning we played sharks and minnows to learn about risk and insurance. And tomorrow and Friday we're going to be learning about careers." says Credit Union President Lisa Brown.

She says by working with both the the parents and students, they want to save the families some trouble down the road when college and cars become apart of the students' everyday lives. On Friday, the camp will end with a final project - Donald Trump Apprentice-style - in the Credit Union boardroom after lunch at the Governor's Club. For summers in the future, Brown says she hopes they'll be able to branch out and include other summer camps into the program.
