Ariyon Dailey
Freelance JournalistAriyon Dailey is a FAMU Alumna and journalist from Haines City, Florida. She started in television news as a reporter and anchor for FAMU-TV 20. She’s interned with Bay News 9 and WFTX Fox 4 working on stories about local court cases, astrology, and COVID-19. Ariyon also wrote for the university’s newspaper which led her to becoming the editor-in-chief of The FAMUAN and landing two fellowships with the Washington Post and the Boston Globe. In 2021, Ariyon led a special edition of The FAMUAN about guns that landed them the Mark of Excellence award for in-depth reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2021, Ariyon landed a role at The Dallas Morning News as an audience journalist, covering stories about local restaurants, sports, arts & entertainment, and breaking news. Ariyon is currently a social producer for Reckon, producing content about reproductive rights, Black joy, working families, and more. She’s written for The Tallahassee Democrat, Essence: Girl’s United and is part of the 16th class of Education Writers Association fellows. Her passions include food, pop culture, and social justice.

Eating, or satiety, is a basic physiological need. How that need is met can vary from person to person, moment to moment, and, increasingly often, is dependent on income. In Tallahassee, between its two public universities, those income and access lines can be as pronounced as the railroad tracks that divide the two schools.
