WFSU Public Media has named veteran public media leader Bob Culkeen as its new executive director and general manager.
Culkeen brings decades of experience in public television and radio. He currently serves as president and CEO of WTCI Public Media in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he has led the station since 2020. His career also includes leadership roles at public media stations in Florida and Illinois.
Culkeen also knows Florida public media well. Before joining WTCI, he served as general manager of WSRE in Pensacola from 2016 to 2020. Earlier in his career, he spent nearly 14 years at WJCT in Jacksonville, including as vice president for technology and operations. Between those roles, he served as station manager and later chief operating officer of Illinois Public Media at the University of Illinois.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead WFSU,” Culkeen said. “WFSU has a long history of serving its communities through trusted programming, education and public service. I look forward to listening to our staff, supporters and community partners and building on that strong foundation.”
Culkeen serves on the PBS Board of Directors. His experience spans community and university-based public media organizations.
Culkeen earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Westfield State University and a bachelor’s degree in communication media and television from Fitchburg State University.
He begins his new role October 19.
