Be My Neighbor Day 2026 drew more than 450 attendees to the WFSU Studios for a morning of fun, friendship and discovery.
This celebration of community and kindness brought together more than 20 community partners to serve families and young children with a variety of free activities alongside their resources while WFSU set up special meet-and-greets with the one and only Daniel Tiger!
Be My Neighbor Day is inspired by Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and Mister Rogers' iconic Neighborhood of Make Believe. Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was a monumental television series for children’s public media. The show built on Fred Rogers’ belief that every child deserves respect and emphasizes the importance of being kind to our neighbors and building community. Upholding the same values, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is an animated children’s show about Daniel Tiger and his friends, seeking to connect with young kids on their level.
Through Be My Neighbor Day, kids can see the lessons taught in Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood come to life as they interact with their local leaders and understand the importance of those who live and work around them.
This year’s event offered our first-ever Daniel Tiger costume contest and live ASL interpretation for families. We also featured many of our classic Neighborhood elements like a trolley, face painting, and a low-sensory room with fidgets and ASL storytime.
A big thank you to Florida Prepaid, the Florida Lottery and Florida State University’s Anne Spencer Daves College of Education for being our sponsors this year. We couldn’t have done it without you!
