Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried and several North Florida Democrats were among the first in Leon County to cast their in-person ballots outside the Leon County Courthouse Monday morning.

Fried said she believes voting this election cycle is especially important.

“We have an opportunity to reverse a six-week abortion ban that is on the ballot. You have an opportunity to legalize adult use cannabis that is on the ballot. At the end of the day, your democracy, your freedom, your opportunity to fix property insurance, is on the ballot, but you got to come out and you got to vote. That is the only way we protect this democracy,” she said.

Fried’s remarks came as Democrats appear to be trailing in Florida. A new poll released Monday by the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab shows Democratic Presidential Nominee Kamala Harris trailing by ten points to Republican Donald Trump.
