There are now two candidates vying for an opening on the Second Judicial Circuit bench, heading in to the general election.
In the nonpartisan race for Second Judicial Circuit Judge, group 4, Tiffany Baker enjoyed a commanding lead since polls closed election night. Baker won more than 35 percent of the vote, a more than 10 percent edge ahead of her second-place opponent.
Baker had this to say about her qualifications, while speaking during a Political Perspectives program on WFSU in July:
"My experience qualifies me to be judge. But it is my life experience that will make me a good judge. It is my life experience that has taught me to meet people where they are and listen with an open heart. Because I know that everything that I think may not be right, or correct, or the way another person may see it.”
Baker will face off with Amanda Wall in November.
Wall got just shy of 24 percent of the vote. She spoke with WFSU Tuesday night, thanking voters and her family – and explaining why she feels she’s right for the job.
“I think it’s important for a judge to have experience and to have a calming demeanor, to have a respectful demeanor, and have the ability to run a courtroom,” Wall said. “And I have the proven ability to do so, I’ve been doing that for six years as a magistrate in all six counties of our Second Circuit.”
Wall has 31 years of experience as an attorney.
