The City of Tallahassee argues the issue of residency is of statewide importance and it wants the Florida Supreme Court to rule on whether local municipal definitions of residency hold any weight.

City Commissioner Scott Maddox is asking the courts to clear the way for him to be sworn back into office. He was blocked from taking the oath until a residency dispute was resolved. Monday a Leon County Judge ruled Maddox lives in his district.

A district court ruling Sunday has barred Scott Maddox from being sworn into the City Commission until a residency dispute is settled.

A legal move to disqualify a Democratic candidate for Florida attorney general failed on Friday when a Tallahassee judge ruled that George Sheldon met the residency requirements for the race.
 
The ruling by Chief Judge Charles Francis of the 2nd Judicial Circuit means Sheldon will stay on the ballot in the August 26th primary to decide the Democratic challenger to Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi.
 
He's running against state House Minority Leader Perry Thurston of Fort Lauderdale.
