Governor Rick Scott is calling on the FBI Director to resign after the agency didn’t take action on information received about the 19-year-old who killed 17 people at a South Florida High School.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Mark Walker declared Florida’s process of restoring felon’s civil rights unconstitutional. Walker criticized the “absolute veto authority” Governor Rick Scott has on the process, and has ordered a permanent remedy be in place by February 12th. Andrew Quintana recently sat down with the Program Director for Florida State University’s Center for the Advancement of Human Rights, Mark Schlakman. The two discussed Florida’s current restoration process and what changes Governor Scott and the cabinet, which make up the state clemency board, can make by the deadline.  

Wakulla County Deputies Receive Medals Of Heroism

Florida Governor Rick Scott honored two sheriff’s deputies Thursday with a Medal of Heroism.

Deputies Matt Hedges and Brandon Sheffield were responding to a house fire last February when they heard a man’s cries for help. The deputies protected him from the fire until it was safe for him to be moved. Though the victim suffered severe burns, he survived. Governor Rick Scott honored the deputies at a Florida Cabinet meeting Thursday.

Governor Scott is expected to appeal a Friday decision by an administrative judge, who tossed out emergency rules issued by Scott’s administration. The rules required nursing homes and assisted living facilities to have generators and enough power to cool buildings for 96 hours.
