THOMASVILLE -- The academic landscape in South Georgia will change dramatically a month from now. On July 1, Southwest Georgia Technical College, a fixture in Thomasville since 1947, will merge with Moultrie Technical College, which began in 1964, to become Southern Regional Technical College.

Florida State Troopers are partnering with other law enforcement agencies, in-and-out-of-state, for the “Hands Across the Border” safety campaign. It’s an annual campaign that aims to promote safe driving practices along area highways leading up to the Labor Day Holiday—particularly sober driving.

For the past few years, alcohol-related deaths have been on an increase in Florida. And, Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Ryan Martina says law enforcers hope to make sure that doesn’t happen this Labor Day weekend.

Mules Take Center Stage At Calvary, Ga., Festival

About 90,000 people made their way to the 40th annual Mule Day Festival in Calvary, Ga., over the weekend.  The festival started off as a military reunion of Calvary’s World War II veterans.

The mule is nature’s cross between a female horse and a male donkey. But how did the mule get a massive festival named after it in a little town in southern Georgia?
