Third Annual Amazing Race Coming Sept. 17th

Tom Flanigan

Tallahassee’s Third Annual Amazing Race is a month away. It’s part of an ongoing campaign to encourage more area residents to get out and explore their hometown.

Knight Creative Communities Institute Director Betsy Couch says too many Tallahasseeans stick too close to home.

“Someone who lives on the Northside may not have visited Cascades Park yet. And one who lives in the SoMo District or is a student at FAMU or FSU may have never been out to the Market District,” she said at the Wednesday (8/17) race announcement.

Which is why KCCI and the local chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association started hosting the Amazing Capital Race three years ago. This year’s race is September 17th and City Commissioner Scott Maddox wants to take on county government.

“I want to challenge County Commissioner Nick Maddox and County Administrator Vince Long to face (City Manager) Rick Fernandez and I in a city versus county team,” Maddox said.

Teams of two will compete by meeting various challenges at businesses and organizations all over town. Organizers say there will be extra points for using public transportation. Registration and details are at: www.theamazingcapitalrace.com.
