Special Election Set For State House District As Lawmakers Scramble

The South Florida statehouse delegation is playing musical chairs after the resignation of a state senator.

Florida Governor Rick Scott has issued an executive order setting the date for a special election in House District 116.  The seat is open because the incumbent, Republican Jose Felix Diaz, is running for the state Senate seat left open after disgraced Republican Frank Artiles resigned.

Diaz officially resigned his House seat last week.

Thankfully for the local election supervisor, Scott is scheduling the House primary and general elections on the same days as the Senate races.   The primaries will be held July 25 and the general September 26.

He listens to far too many podcasts and is a die-hard 49ers football fan. When Nick’s not at work he likes to cook, play music and read.
