Shooting Suspect's Wife Reveals Possible Confession In Tallahassee Apartment Shooting

Leon County Jail

The Tallahassee Police Department has released a report on a Tuesday afternoon shooting at a Tallahassee apartment complex. While the details of what happened appear straight forward the redaction of a witness statement is unusual.

Police reports usually contain some redacted information, like social security and driver’s license numbers. But it’s rare to see a witness’s statement blanked out. That’s the case with the report filed on the Tuesday shooting.

“The reason they were specifically redacted in this case was because they would incriminate—they could possibly incriminate the suspect in this case, in a type of confession," says Tallahassee Police Department Spokesman David Northway.

According to Florida law, the police department isn’t allowed to release the substance of a confession by a person who is under arrest.”

The redacted statement is from Christopher Weigly’s wife. She tells officers what her husband said after the shooting. Weigly came to the complex and shot at office staff, striking James Stewart several times. Weigly then remained outside. His wife had been fired from the complex earlier in the day and called her husband to tell him what had happened prior to his arrival.
