'Senator Greg Evers Memorial Highway' Designation Moves Closer To Becoming Reality

The Florida Legislature has passed a bill that includes designating a highway after a former North Florida Republican Senator who died last year.

Sen. Doug Broxson (R-Gulf Breeze) says he remembers Greg Evers very fondly. The former GOP lawmaker died in August, following a car crash near his Strawberry farm.

“He had a beautiful southern drawl,” said Broxson. “He was a farmer. He was a gentleman, and he always wanted to be Greg Evers. He never changed, from the first day he was here, and he served here in the House and Senate for 15 years. It’s my honor to designate a road close to his homestead in Baker, Florida with the late Senator Greg Evers.”

Initially, the Florida Senate passed Broxson’s standalone bill (SB 358) naming a portion of State Road 4 in Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties after Evers. But, it was later tucked into a much larger transportation bill (SB 382) memorializing others who passed away. That measure then passed the House and Senate Friday, and now awaits the Governor's approval.
