Scott Fights For Florida's Future With Tax Cuts

Florida Gov. Rick Scott
State of Florida, Meredyth Hope Hall

Governor Rick Scott is currently traveling the state on his “Fighting for Florida’s Future” Tax Cut Tour.

Florida is the only state with a commercial lease tax that its businesses have to pay. Scott says that puts Florida’s small businesses at a competitive disadvantage. As part of his package, the governor is proposing to reduce the tax on commercial leases by 25 percent in four years. Although Scott says that there will be opponents to this plan in legislature, he remains confident.

"Let’s think about the numbers for a second," Scott said. "237 thousand more people got a job last year. More than 1.2 million, nearly 1.3 million people in the last six years. Our revenues are up. We’re walking into a budget this year, that our projected revenues will be 2.8 billion dollars more than recurring expenses."

The Tax Cut Tour kicked off in Jacksonville, and will continue to pay visits to cities such as Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando.
