Florida’s 67 election supervisors are calling on the legislature to move voter registration online.

In a report issued Tuesday the supervisors say the online system should go into effect after the 2016 general election.  League of Women Voters of Florida President Diedre McNabb says her group is pleased with the supervisors’ support, but not quite so much with the timeline.

“We are in full support of online voter registration and as soon as can be practically implemented in the state is what the League would support," McNabb says. "I can’t speak for any other group on the call, but I don’t want to criticize their timeline until I better understand their reason for it.”

Twenty states currently allow online voter registration. Earlier this year two Florida lawmakers introduced proposals in the legislature on the issue, but the bills didn’t go anywhere.
