Leon County Prepared To Host Evacuees Heading Home

One shelter remains open in Leon County. Officials say they’re keeping the space available for anyone who might not be able to return home yet, as well as anyone who gets stuck on their way. Leon County spokesman Mathieu Cavell says some of those returning home could get stopped on their way by a possible bridge closure along I-75.
“If someone is continuing back East on I-10 and can’t continue down 75 and can’t take the back roadway, there’s shelters and hotels available for them should they need it,” Cavell says.

The Santa Fe River is rising rapidly and officials say it may result in road closure and detours. The Tallahassee shelter that remains open is in the Northwoods Baptists Church at 3762 Capital Circle North West.

The county closed its special needs shelter Wednesday after transferring one last resident to a hotel thanks to the donation of a local church.
