Lawmakers Droning On

Florida lawmakers are on the verge of legalizing the same drone delivery devices that are familiar fixtures on the streets of London and Washington D.C.

A measure by Republican Senator Jeff Brandes of St. Petersburg was tacked onto a related bill by GOP colleague Dana Young of Tampa.

“The bill prohibits their operation on the Florida Shared Use, Non-Motorized Trail Network and requires an operator to maintain minimum insurance of 100 thousand dollars for minimum liability.”

The legislation allows local governments to authorize use of rolling robots weighing up to 50 pounds with a top speed of 10 miles per hour.

London-based Starship Technologies vehicles are already making deliveries in California and the U.S. Capitol.
