I-75 Crash Report To Be Released Friday

The Department of Highways Safety and Motor Vehicles is expected to release a report Friday detailing the deadly crash that took place on Interstate 75 during January of this year. The wreck claimed 11 lives and involved 25 vehicles.

Initial reports blamed the crash on poor visibility caused by fog and smoke from a near brush fire. But, Julie Jones, the executive Director of the Highway Safety department, said the the department's report will contain more detailed information about the incident.

“I think many of the questions posed by the media and others on this incident are going to be answered in this report,” Jones said.

She said the report will also include a response to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s investigation, but notes the state has not completed all homicide investigations related to the crash. She said interviews about the findings won’t be granted because the state is facing at least 11 lawsuits relating to the wreck. Jones said the state has seen a small decrease in crashes and fatalities over the last year.
