The Florida Supreme Court has signed off on a new Congressional district map. The court approved the new map in a 5-to-2 decision.
The new map includes significant changes to the district of longtime Democratic Congresswoman Corrine Brown of Jacksonville, and could also spell the end for Republican Dan Webster and Democrat Gwen Graham. All three could face new challengers in drastically altered districts. Graham’s North Florida district now leans more conservative, and two Republicans are already vying for the position.
Brown, and U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson have threatened to sue over what they view as diminished minority voting opportunity in their districts.
The ruling could impact a pending review of redrawn state Senate districts. A trial over those lines is set for later in the month.
