Gov Scott Talks Re-Election Plan And Whether Lt Gov Carroll Is Part of It

Some pundits are questioning whether the controversies swirling around Florida’s Lieutenant Governor could hurt Governor Rick Scott’s re-election chances. And, the Governor gave his opinion following a Cabinet meeting Tuesday.

Florida Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll has been in the news a lot lately. She’s been defending herself against allegations made by a former aide about an alleged lesbian relationship with a female staffer. While apologizing for her response to the claims, that sparked a backlash from the gay community. Soon after, Carroll’s brother-in-law got indicted for distribution of oxycontin.

Despite all the bad press, Governor Rick Scott says he approves of the job she’s doing:

“What she’s trying to do is do the same thing that I’m trying to do, which is trying to get jobs going, which is why she’s in Trinidad and Tobago on a trade delegation," said Scott. "And, she’s going to continue to focus on the things that are important to the state and the biggest thing we have in our state right now is jobs.”

Scott says he even plans to keep Carroll on as his running mate when he’s up for re-election in 2014.

“She’s done a great job. Why wouldn’t I?”  remarked Scott.

Scott also acknowledged that he never spoke to Carroll, regarding her remark that offended some in the gay community. He did say Carroll did the right thing, when she apologized to members of the the gay community for her remark.

Carroll is currently in her native land, Trinidad and Tobago, leading a five-day trade mission trip. It’s expected to end Wednesday.
