Florida has a new Auditor General. Newly sworn-in Sherrill Norman is the first female in the role.
Kathy Dubose is the coordinator for the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee. It selected Sherrill Norman as the new Auditor General, after her predecessor David Martin announced his retirement.
“Ms. Norman is now our sixth Auditor General and the first female,” said Dubose. during Wednesday's swearing in ceremony. “She has been employed by the Auditor General’s office for the last 25 years and for almost the last three years she has served as the Deputy Auditor General.”
Representative Dan Raulerson (R-Plant City) serves as the alternating chair of the Joint Legislative Auditing Committee. He gave high praise to Norman.
“You can have great leadership ability, great organizational skills, but in this office, what’s the most important thing that’s the bedrock of what all of us do in this business is integrity, and it comes out of that lady right there,” said Raulerson.
And, Norman says she’s excited.
“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to assume the position of Auditor General and to lead this great organization,” said Norman. “We serve as the state’s independent auditor, and are assigned the mission of promoting accountability and stewardship and taxpayer resources for our state and local governments. We evaluate the economy, efficiency, and effectiveness of government programs and activities and recommend ways to improve our government’s operations.”
