Florida Senate President Joe Negron has appointed 9 people to a powerful commission charged with proposing amendments to the state constitution.
Negron made 9 appointments to the 37-member Florida Constitution Revision Commission. Eight are Republican and one is a Democrat. They include former state senators, education leaders and attorneys.
In an interview with the News Service of Florida, Negron said he hopes the commission will reexamine the redistricting process and lift restrictions on state funding for religious organizations. He also wants the commission to offer education reforms. Whatever the commission comes up with will need to gain approval from 60 percent of Florida voters.
