Tallahassee, FL – Lawmakers are moving forward with the redistricting process. Regan McCarthy reports a House sub-committee is considering public map suggestions for Senate districts.
The Senate Redistricting Subcommittee which is the name of a House committee is looking at maps submitted by members of the public for ideas and suggestions on the Senate redistricting process. Representative Evan Jenne, a Democrat from Fort Lauderdale, says sometimes the intent of the creator can play a role in the outcome of the map.
"If a member of the legislature created a map the intent would come into play."
If the legislature were to adopt a publicly submitted map, technically, legislators wouldn't be required to consider the intent of the actual map creator, as long as the legislature finds the map conforms to the law.
