City Commission To Consider Pause On New Medical Marijauana Dispensaries

Dec 9, 2016

The City of Tallahassee is considering whether to put a six-month moratorium on medical marijuana shops.  The issue is slated to go before commissioners at their upcoming meeting.

There’s already two dispensaries operating in Tallahassee. A third request is under city review, but it says it’s received nine more. The influx as led city officials to consider how they can regulate the industry at the local level.  And they’re asking City Commissioners to approve a six-month moratorium on new applications until they’ve come up with an ordinance for how to proceed. The moratorium, of approved, would apply to dispensaries and treatment facilities that have not applied for a building permit by the start of December.

Florida voters approved an expanded Medical marijuana system in November which builds upon the state’s existing framework. And state lawmakers will have to determine how to carry out the will of the voters.
