Tallahassee's many dozens of human service non-profits were out in force yesterday (11/29). The occasion was "Giving Tuesday" and the competition for awareness and funding was hot and heavy.
For Janelle Irwin, the president and co-founder of the Hang Tough Foundation, it was a 12-hour day sitting at a table just inside the Red Eye Coffee Shop on Capital Circle.
"It raises awareness because we're a newer foundation and it's letting people know who we and what we're doing in the community," she said. "And secondly, we're taking those donations today because it is Giving Tuesday and for any donation that you give, Red Eye has partnered with us and is giving out a free cup of coffee, hot or cold brewed."
Meanwhile, the Tallahassee Museum was drumming up support for a new black bear habitat, Second Harvest of the Big Bend was celebrating a big donation from Gulf Winds Federal Credit Union and the Red Cross was reaching out to replenish its resources after a double hurricane hit in Florida this year.
