A bill requiring a warning on Florida Lottery products, such as lottery tickets and scratch off cards, moved forward Tuesday.

Gainesville Republican Senator Keith Perry presented the measure. Although the bill was passed, Jacksonville Democratic Senator Audrey Gibson believes the bill is unclear and unnecessary, as Gibson does not consider purchasing lottery tickets and scratch offs to be gambling.

“Certainly as a currently member of the legislature, I don’t consider the purchase of those products offered by the lottery to be gambling, and I’m not inclined to support the statement either,” Gibson said.

The bill would require “warning” and “gambling can be addictive” printed on lottery tickets. The bill passed the Senate Regulated Industries committee, and is now on its way to judiciary.
