New Stage Theatreworks

New Stage Theatreworks is bringing the show “American Idiot” to Tallahassee this evening. The show is a coming-of-age story told through music from the band Green Day.

"The music is powerful and the music is the soul of the show,” actor Santo Sanchez says.

Sanchez plays one of the lead characters named Tuny as he and the rest of the cast tell the story of a suburban town, called Jingle Town where many of the residents are working to understand their lives following 9-11.

“Its amazing to see these characters evolve from beginning to end and that being told through the music. There’s the soft somberness of 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams,' all the way to 'Wake Me Up When September ends.' And its more of an inspiring ballad that shows that change that each character has going through. And another great thing that makes the show so, so fun is now only do I have a story to tell, but the entire cast has their story to tell and this entire cast has done a great job of digging deep into who they are and the story they have to tell and delivering it," Sanchez says.

Sanchez says his favorite song is the show is "Are We the Waiting."

“I ended up falling in love with the song and what the story was telling and the song comes along at such a pivotal moment in my character’s story arc. Its so fun being able to portray that moment and those emotions on stage through the amazing lyrics of Billie Joe Armstrong and channeling that energy on stage for the world to hear. Its great. When I’m on stage, I lose myself” Sanchez says.

Tickets are available online or at the door the day of the show. American Idiot runs through the next two weekends.
